Doing Your Sumou means doing Good Sumou at all times and not changing the Strategy based on who you face in Shoubu. This is the Meaning of Courage. To live Sumou is to embody Courage.

Doing Your Sumou doesn't mean developing some personal peculiar style. It means the Ideal you must strive to achieve is Good Sumou and you must do Good Sumou no matter what the opponent comes out with.

This doesn't mean being non-responsive, or stiff, not being able to react. You must react and take countermeasures, but this reaction must be in the spirit of Tenacious Sumou not Pulling.

Dejima fought Tamakasuga on day 9 of Hatsu Basho 2005. And he fought his own Sumou though the opponent tried to Pull him down. He didn't change anything and persevered, though shook-up to do purely Offensive Sumou. That was the reason he won that Shoubu.

Kisenosato fought Kyokushuuzan on the same day and was thrown off right from the start by Kyokushuuzan's Evasive Sumou. Somehow tried to make up for it and didn't do his Sumou at all. That's why he lost.

You must always keep going your style. No matter how strong the opponent.

On the 2nd day of Aki Basho 2004 Kokkai fought Asashouryuu. Kokkai started slow, not a Power charge because he was conscious of his Opponent.

You must always Fight just your Fight. It's as if the other guy isn't there.
